Lesson 1: Meraih dan Mewujudkan VISI

Joshua 1:1 “After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua, the son of Nun, `Moses, my servant, is dead. Now then, you and all of these people get ready to cross the Jordan river into the land I’m about to give them [the Israelites]. In other words, this is graduation day. They’re getting ready to go into the land for the first time. I will give you every place where you set your foot as I promised Moses. Then He gets very specific and He defines exactly what Joshua is to take over. Your territory will extend from the desert and from Lebanon to the great river of the Euphrates, all the Hittite countries, and to the Great Sea on the west and no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life.”

What does this passage teach us?

1. BE CLEAR IN YOUR DIRECTION

That’s the starting point. God specifically outlines the What? the When? the Where? and the Why? Joshua was to take over the land. He says, This is what I want you to do. You need a clear cut goal. You don’t need a vague goal. You need a precise idea: Where am I headed in life? I talk to people all the time who come for counseling and they say, “I just don’t really know what I want in life. I’m frustrated with my marriage. I’m frustrated with my job.” I say, “Can you be a little more specific?” God wants us to know exactly where we’re headed and we need a clear (not a vague) goal.

2. BE CONFIDENT IN YOUR DESIRES.

Typically, once you set a God-given goal, immediately after you set it, you begin to doubt it. You begin to question it. You begin to ask yourself things like, “Is this really God’s will?” “Does God really want me to have this? Do I really deserve it? Is this just a selfish request? What if I’m wrong?” Then you start second guessing yourself. The Bible says “A double minded man is unstable in all of his ways.” You have to not only be clear in your destination, your direction, what do you want out of life, but you have to be confident in that desire. You’ve got to believe in God. You’ve got to believe in yourself. You have to believe that God wants to bless your life. You have to be confident in your desires.

Evidently, Joshua had a problem with this. Over and over he felt very inadequate. In this passage, God keeps having to give Joshua a pep talk. Four times in this passage, God says to Joshua, “You can do it! Go for it!” In verse 6 He says, “God says to Joshua, `Be strong and courageous.’” v. 7, He says, “Be strong and very courageous.” v. 9, He says, “Be strong and very courageous.” v. 18, He says, “Be strong and very courageous.” Four times! He’s trying to say, Get the point, Joshua!

Why does God say that? Fear, not problems, keeps you in the wilderness. It’s not the problems of the Promised Land. Even the Promised Land has problems. It has giants in it. You have problems wherever you are. But it’s fear that keeps you in the wilderness and you must be confident in your desires.

When you are committed to doing the will of God, God can speak through your desires. God can use your desires as guiding steps when you are sincerely saying, “God, I’m determined to do Your will.” Be clear in your direction and be confident in your desires.

3. BE COMMITTED TO YOUR DECISION.

That means once you have started, never, ever look back. Luke 9:62 tells us, “No man having put his hand to the plow and looking back is fit for the kingdom of heaven.” Don’t look back! Any farmer knows if he looks back while he’s plowing, he’s going to plow a crooked line. Commitment is the key to accomplishment. No commitment means you’ll never finish anything.

This is what God says in verse 9b “Joshua, don’t be terrified. Don’t be discouraged. For the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go.” Stick with it! Hang in there! Keep at it! Keep on keeping on! Be committed to your decision. Once you’ve made it, stick with it.

What are you committed to? A lot of people today are afraid of commitment. Maybe they begin one job and that gets tough so they switch to another. They’re constantly switching jobs. Or maybe they’re in a marriage and they won’t make a commitment to that. They move from one relationship to another. Some people flirt from one project to the next. They never finish anything. Some people, even ministry leaders, float in and out of churches because they cannot make a commitment. The favorite phrase is, “If it doesn’t work out…” The fact is, high achievers make a decision and they die by it.

Notice what Joshua did. In Joshua 3 he prepared the people to be committed, to make the effort. They were getting ready to go into the Promised Land. They were on one side of the Jordan River getting ready to cross it. This was graduation day. This was the point of no return. This was the moment of truth, the time of decision.

Sometimes that’s what you have to do. You have to commit yourself to something so there’s no way out.

Look what Joshua did in 3:5. “Then Joshua said to the people, `Consecrate yourselves. For tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’” Consecrate — that means an act of total, unconditional, unreserved commitment. It means laying it all on the line. It means going for broke. They were in essence saying, “God, we’re going to go for it even if we fail!” And that, says God, is a principle of success. Be clear in your destination. Be confident of your desires. Be committed to your decisions.

There are some things that typically will discourage you and will tempt you to give up.

1. Problems. Problems will tempt you to give up. Every good idea, has something wrong with it. Every good idea has a problem to it. You don’t reject something just because it’s is difficult. Even the Promised Land had problems. As a Christians leader, a problem should never get you down, except down on your knees. Problems should be turned into prayer requests. Problems will tempt you to give up.

2. Pressures will tempt you to give up. You want to say, “This is too much responsibility! I’m going to throw in the towel. I can’t do this on my own. I can’t handle the pressure. I want to quit. I want to give up.”

3. People will tempt you to give up, to let go of your commitments. They will disappoint you. Sometimes you’ll be misunderstood. Maybe ridiculed, maybe criticized. The fact is, negative attitudes are contagious.

Commitment is the third key in God’s strategy for success is to never give up. Be clear in your direction. Be confident in your desires. Be committed to your decisions.

Lesson 2: MENYEBRANG KE TANAH PERJANJIAN

A. Instruksi: Bacalah YOSUA 1:1-11 (Bacalah secara bergantian, pronounce the Word of God adalah salah satu hal penting dalam mempelajari firman)

B. Bahan Pelajaran:

1. The Excitement

“Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. (NASB)

Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.(NIV)

Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God,(NASB)

2. It’s an invasion

C. Penerapan Firman

POF needs revival and you are part of the God’s army that will make it happen!(dengan kata lain, oikos yang sering terlambat, berubahlah, perubahan kalian sangat mempengaruhi gereja ini)

Lesson 3: Tali Merah Kirmizi

Intro :

Joshua 2:12, 17-19

12 “Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family, because I have shown kindness to you. Give me a sure sign 13 that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them—and that you will
